Last night, Villa Maria’s women’s basketball team learned they received an at-large bid for the USCAA Tournament. Ranked at No. 5, the Vikings returned to the court with a vengeance for the 2021-2022 season. Their 2020-2021 season was cut short due to COVID-19.
“Our ladies have had to endure and persevered through a lot of ups and downs this season,” said Des Randall, Villa’s director of athletics. “Their motivation to get through it all, has been to make it to the national tournament. Hearing their name called yesterday — it all came full circle and made it all worth it. I am extremely happy for them and unbelievably proud of them.”
The No. 5 Vikings will take on the No. 4 seed, Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday, March 8 at Richard Bland College in Virginia. The ladies finished their regular season with a winning record of 14-10. This year, the women’s basketball team was led by Head Coach Michael McCarthy and Assistant Coach Victor Arroyo.
