Villa Maria College is honored to announce a $150,000 endowment gift to further support the Harry F. Dommer and Clara R. Dommer Scholarship fund. Announced at the Board of Trustees Dinner on Thursday, May 29, Clara Dommer explained that she wished to increase the reach of the fund so more students could benefit from a college education.
She originally established the fund in January 2012 with her daughter, to honor their husband and father, a World War II veteran who passed away in 2007.
Her generosity to what she describes as her three charities–her family, her church and the Felician Sisters–spans many years. A member of the Villa Maria College Circle of Friends, Dommer was honored for her commitment to Villa Maria College at a Holiday Brunch in 2012. Sister Mary Justine Gardon, Dommer’s sister, was also a teacher at the college.
Dommer would often bring treats, centerpieces, decorations, and garden materials to the Sisters at the Blessed Angela Care Center. As a true example of dedication and generosity, she always asked if there was more she could do, and how she could help those in need. With this most recent gift Dommer hopes that “maybe someone else will be inspired to do the same.”
The mother of four children, she also has seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A private, co-educational, Catholic college, Villa Maria offers students a unique experience to learn and grow with a culturally diverse student population and a growing baccalaureate culture that lives its values of truth, charity, and unity.
