On Friday, September 22, Villa Maria College will host an opening reception in its Paul William Beltz Family Art Gallery in celebration of a new art exhibit, “The Villa Connection: Current/Former Art Faculty from the Gerald Mead Collection.” The event will run from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
This exhibition, selected from the extensive collection of Gerald Mead, a noted Buffalo artist and educator, consists of artworks in all media by artists affiliated with Villa Maria College as art faculty or advisor since 1975.
Brian Duffy, a professor in Villa’s art department and the art gallery curator, is looking forward to seeing the show. “Being a long time faculty member, I can’t help but view this exhibit on a historical level, chronicling the faculty who have taught at Villa over decades,” he said. “Many faculty members started their teaching practices at Villa and moved on to a myriad of institutions of higher learning throughout the country. These faculty members helped shape the art department at Villa Maria College and I am excited to welcome them back to campus.”
Likewise, Mead is looking forward to displaying his collection at Villa. “I am very pleased to share my collection for this exhibition at Villa Maria College,” he said. “I’ve been very fortunate to have known and worked with many of the artists included and I have the highest regard for their artistic achievements and influence as effective educators.”
