Golf, Cross Country, Bowling, and Swimming Added to Villa’s Athletic Program
After announcing the re-launch of intercollegiate athletics in January, Villa Maria College is expanding its athletic programs with the addition of four new sports. Beginning in the fall of 2016, Villa Maria College will add men’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s bowling, and men’s and women’s swimming. The addition of these new teams will position the college to pursue application to the NCAA Division III in the near future, and will round out its offering of current sports: men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s soccer.
“The addition of these sports will allow interested high school and transfer students to compete at an intercollegiate level with postseason opportunities through Villa’s membership in the Unites States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and other conference memberships,” said Don Silveri, Director of Athletics. “This is an exciting time of growth for the athletic department at Villa.”
Villa will immediately hire coaches to lead each of these new teams, and will begin recruiting student athletes.
This past summer, the college made significant investments renovating its already outstanding athletic facilities. Improvements were made to the gym, pool, and athletic training room by adding new lighting, scoreboards, equipment, and more. Additionally, Villa created a state of the art fitness center and weight room for all students and athletes.
“Sports has been a very successful addition to the college this year. Our enrollment has grown and school spirit has increased,” said Brian Emerson, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services. “People are excited that the Villa Vikings are back in action at the college.”
Students interested in becoming a student athlete should contact Villa Maria’s admissions office at 716.961.1805, visit the Villa Vikings website at www.Villavikings.com, or email [email protected].
