On February 7, 2018, Villa Maria College and the Villa Vikings will host a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony of the College’s new practice gym. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and the ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
The project’s initial design goal was to create the maximum amount of floor space in the College’s underutilized pool area. This was accomplished by creating a steal deck and concrete floor over the existing pool, and laying a new gym floor on top. To complete the gym, new athletic equipment was installed.
“This new space provides the highest quality practice and recreation space for our students and community partners, said Sister Marcella Marie Garus, Villa’s president. “It eliminates scheduling conflicts and helps student athletes adjust their schedules to have more time for their academic pursuits. Villa’s athletic center complex truly stands out for a college this size.”
The 6,600 square foot gym houses a regulation-size practice basketball court and a volleyball court. The renovation, which was completed by Kirst Construction, took 6 months and is one of the largest construction projects since the campus was built.
Attendees of the Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony are invited to watch the Villa Vikings men’s and women’s basketball teams as they take on Alfred State College. The women take the court at 6:00 p.m., followed by the men at 8:00 p.m.
