Villa Maria College was admitted as a full member for 2015-16 of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) on Friday, June 26. The USCAA Board of Directors announced their approval of the college and its new athletics program in a meeting earlier that day.
A membership organization, the USCAA provides opportunities for small colleges to compete on an equal level of competition with schools of like size and athletic programs. The association seeks to conduct national championships, name All-Americans, recognize scholar athletes, and promote USCAA member schools.
“We are delighted about the opportunity to work with your coaches, staff and student athletes,” Matthew Simms, executive director of USCAA wrote in a statement.
Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Services Brian Emerson, echoed Simms’ excitement with the approval, saying it was good news for Villa and the growing athletics program.
“Being part of the USCAA gives our students the opportunity to play in post-season competition and to get the player recognition they deserve,” Don Silveri, director of athletics at Villa said.
This past spring, Villa unveiled a modern and redesigned identity for the Villa Vikings, the traditional nickname of their athletics teams. Basketball and soccer teams will begin intercollegiate play this fall.
A private, co-educational, Catholic college, Villa Maria provides the premiere student-centered experience in Western New York. Students learn and grow with a diverse population in a culture that lives its ideals of truth, charity, and unity.
