This year, Queen City Fashion Week will take place September 17-September 22, and Villa Maria College has signed on as an event sponsor.
As part of the sponsorship, Villa’s fashion design and merchandising students will be involved as volunteers. Five students will be working as designers during Wednesday night’s boutique show and industry mixer, which takes place at Hotel Lafayette. Each of these students produced award-winning work that was featured in Villa’s annual fashion show. Seventeen additional students will serve as behind-the-scenes volunteers during Friday’s Final Fashion Showcase at Executive AirShare on Cayuga Road.
“We are so excited to have our students participate in Queen City Fashion Week,” said Dr. Joycelyn Burdett, program director of Villa’s fashion design and merchandising program. “Rick and his team do a fabulous job of coordinating a high fashion event that takes place right here in Buffalo. It is extremely advantageous for our students to be exposed to this level of professionalism in the fashion industry locally instead of having to travel to a major city for the same experience.”
This is the second consecutive year in which Villa and its students are involved in Queen City Fashion Week, which Warne promises will be unlike anything the City of Buffalo has ever seen. “It’s all about highlighting what we have going on in Buffalo,” he said. “We have an amazing team of local designers, boutiques, and producers working on this show. These are incredibly talented people who are creating an event where people can come together and network.”
Tickets for each of the events can be purchased through EventBrite; a percentage of this year’s proceeds will go to Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
