In my neurology clinic, I see the same patients for years. I love challenging myself to discover something new so I can address it in Physical Therapy with each patient. It’s incredibly gratifying to challenge my patients in ways neither of us considered before, and to discover they can do things they never thought they could do.
My biggest takeaway from Villa is a classic Dr. Kotz quote: “It depends on the patient.” This principle guides my every treatment. What works for one patient may not work or be appropriate for another patient, and it’s up to me to figure what does work!
My best advice to future PTAs: Really LOOK at your patient. Ask yourself, why is this particular person moving this particular way? Movement analysis can give you valuable insight into what your treatment should focus on, so your patient can make better progress faster.
