Villamation, the College’s 24-hours animation competition has become a staple of each spring semester.
“Without fail on the first day of classes each spring semester the first thing students ask me is are we doing Villamation this year,” said Valery Amborski. “My answer is always the same. ‘Of course we are!” And so, starting on Saturday February 17, 2024, 32 students at all levels of proficiency were divided into 4 teams of 8 and set to work.”
“Tasked with creating stories that incorporated randomly selected character traits, motivations, and conflicts, students sacrificed their sleep and their sanity to follow ideas from concepts and completion in a span of just 24 hours.”
The strength of this competition is seen in how students with different backgrounds and levels of experience accept and support each other. This year’s competition saw the highest number of first-year students and game design students’ participation, a trend that we hope to continue moving forward.
After the screening, one team was awarded Best in Show as determined by the College’s Animation and Game Design faculty. In honor of Villamation’s 10th year, the winning team received special gold trophies that were 3-D printed right here on campus.
