Villa Maria College welcomes David F. Granville and James Pappas as two new appointments to the Board of Trustees.
As a visual artist, James Pappas has had nearly 70 exhibitions across the United States, Europe, Canada and the Caribbean, spanning his forty-year career, receiving many awards for his work and community service. His main influences have been music, abstraction, the environment, architectural shapes, man made and natural forms in space and time. His most recent exhibition “Outer Space Continuum,” was shown in Buffalo, NY earlier this fall.
In 1974, Pappas received his MFA in painting at the University of Buffalo. He has also obtained certificates in Screen Print Making from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Amongst other accomplishments, he is a co-founder of the Langston Hughes Center for the Visual and Performing Arts and has served on the Buffalo Arts Commission for 30 years. Pappas is currently an associate professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo in the Art and Black Studies departments, lecturing in the field of Applied Media Aesthetics, specializing in Black Cinema studies.
David Granville serves as the Employment and Training Coordinator for BMHA assisting residents with job training and placement. Prior to this, he served as Assistant to the Commissioner for the City of Buffalo’s Department of Economic Development, Permits and Inspections Services, and as the Mayor’s Liaison to Sister Cities. Previously, David was Executive Director of the Buffalo Arts Commission, Director of the Special Events Office, and a member of the Records Management Advisory Board.
David has a BFA from Niagara University, and a MS from Buffalo State College’s Creative Studies program. He serves on numerous boards including: West Side Neighborhood Housing Services, the Buffalo Arts Commission, the Pride Center of WNY, and now the Commission on Citizens’ Rights and Community Relations. He is also a member of the Allentown Village Society, Allentown Association, and Leadership Buffalo 1999.
