A recent study conducted by Buffalo Business First ranks Villa Maria College as the 6th most diverse college in Upstate New York. Sixty-nine colleges were ranked in total, placing Villa in the top 10% of diverse colleges.
“At Villa, we have a strong respect for diversity, and understand the value it brings to our campus, said Brian Emerson, the College’s vice president for enrollment management and students services. “We aim to create an atmosphere in which students from all backgrounds are welcome and given the opportunity to be successful.”
According to Business First, data came from the newly released racial data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), which is run by the National Center for Education Statistics. The Gini-Simpson diversity index was not part of the IPEDS report, but was calculated separately by Business First. This data places Villa’s study body population slightly below the 50-50 mark, with 48.1% of its student body being white and the largest minority group being African America.
