FOR STUDENTS WHO WANT TO SUCCEED
- Step 1 -- Make that first appointment to visit the Learning Strategies Center. Don't wait. Trained tutors are willing to discuss your courses, your study strategies, your writing, you name it.
- Step 2 -- Forget what people say about Learning Centers. Statistics show that those students who succeed are those students who know how to seek assistance.
- Step 3 -- Give us a chance. You might want to come in just to study. You might want to work on a homework assignment, or you might want to form your own study group. The LSC is a comfortable environment where studying and learning take place.
- Step 4 -- Practice good time management habits. Buy that planner and use it. Put all those important deadlines in it, such as, when papers are due, how many chapters you have to read this week, what all your assignments are, when that next test is.
- Step 5 -- Reading the chapter is not studying the chapter! Make up note cards! Study them when you are riding the bus, waiting for your ride, in line paying for your groceries.
- Step 6 -- Sleep, eat, and exercise!
STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
"The LSC is very beneficial in assisting with every subject. The tutors are personable and willing to assist, not out of obligation, but in sincerely helping students to achieve their goals. Paul (music tutor) is always on time; he's patient and knowledgeable of the content. If it is something he doesn't know, he will check with the instructor and then get back to me. Nancy is helping me with oral skills. She is willing to repeat things until both of us feel it is right."
Larniece Whitehead - Music Performance, Second Semester Freshman, Class of 2003
"What encourages me as a student tutor with the LSC is how a little time spent in discussion with a student, translates into a lot of confidence in learning. Students often don't realize how much they already know."
Jane Marcotte - LSC Student Tutor, Physical Therapist Assistant, Class of 2002
"My grades went up thanks to the Learning Strategies Center. With the help of John, Andrea, Virginia and Kenya, I understand my subjects much better."
Lisa Albanese - Computer Management, Class of 2003
"Using the LSC at Villa has given me opportunities to understand my homework in math and writing. Getting math tutoring has helped me do it on my own and I received a B. And that's great! I'll be back when I need some guidance. Thank you."
Gina Castanza - Graphics, Class of 2003
