The Animation Program at Villa Maria College began fall 2008 and is a competitive, hands-on, and demanding program. Incoming students must qualify with a portfolio and excellent high school GPA. The program presently has incredibly talented and committed students. The intimate class size allows instructors the opportunity to know students, and have an impact on their lives. Villa Maria has a state-of-the-art animation lab, with 17 workstations, including software such as Maya, After Effects, Premiere, Combustion, Flash, Adobe CS3, and Toon Boom. The program has two additional specialized stations. The program also offers HD digital video cameras, digital still cameras, as well as an audio sound effects library for the students to use for their projects. The curriculum stresses the understanding of animation principles, acting, film theory, and storytelling, and then gives the students traditional as well as the technical tools and software to be able to bring their stories to life. M.F. A. preferred, alternative degrees considered. Preference given to candidates with teaching experience. Industry experience a plus. Knowledge of 2D and/or 3D animation software required.
